A Fresh Blog: Explore my thoughts…
A while ago I read a book called “The Origins of Knowledge and Imagination” by Jacob Bronowski. The book is full of wonderful examples of human thought, in particular, ones imagination and creativity. There’s a specific paragraph within the book that I’d like to share with you:
We all know Isaac Newton had an extraordinary mind, he believed that, “If I throw a ball, it will fall to the ground. If I throw it harder it will fall a little further off. If I throw it harder still, it will fall still further off. I must be able to throw it just so hard that it falls exactly as fast as the horizon, and then it will go all the way round the world.” – full of assumptions about the world being round and the balls motion but nevertheless a fantistic, highly imaginative concept.
Newton later compared the balls motion to the moon and how the moon circumnavigates the world. What a superb example of visualisation (you could say he had fresh eyes!).
I speak highly about imagination as I believe it to be extremely important in business; it breeds innovation and drives businesses forward. It’s a powerful tool that needs to be nurtured.
